Nominate your lecturer for the Leiden Teaching Prize

Is your lecturer the best at teaching you about his/her subject or research and does he/she stimulate studying with innovative and interactive courses? Nominate him/her for the Leiden Teaching Prize of 2016-2017! By winning this prize he/she is admitted to the Leiden Teachers’ Academy and receives 25.000 euros to spend on his/her teaching or research.


3 October holiday: university closed

October 3rd is a local holiday in Leiden: the ‘Leids Ontzet’. For this reason, the university buildings are closed and there will be no lectures. This is also in effect for International Studies in The Hague.


Chinese government hands out award to Leonard Blussé

Professor emeritus Leonard Blussé, of the Institute for History, has won the ‘Special Book Award of China’. The Chinese government awards this prize to translators, writers and editors who have contributed to making China better known among non-Chinese.


Alumni Event South and Southeast Asian Studies

The first South and Southeast Asian Studies Alumni event that took place on 7 May was a great success! The event was organized by the 2016 Alumni Committee in cooperation with the KITLV , the research institute for the study of Southeast Asia and the Caribbean.

Help save energy! Wear your sweater on February 5th

On February 5th  it’s Sweater Day. This means the University will lower the temperature in the  lecture halls in the Lipsius and Huizinga building for one day to help reduce CO2-emissions.  Don’t forget to bring a warm sweater to make sure you won’t be cold! In the week of February 8th, the University will announce the gains of this year’s Sweater Day.
