North American Studies best program in the country
Leiden has the best master’s program in North American Studies program in the country, according to a national survey among students that has just been published by Elsevier Magazine! Leiden students are more satisfied with their program than other students are about their North American Studies program. For more details can be found in Dutch.
This does not come as a surprise, for the Leiden program also scored very well in the 2016 National Student Survey (NSE), the results of which were published this summer. Students gave the program as a whole a score of 4,46 (out of 5 maximum), almost half a point higher than the national average. The Leiden NAS program has excellent scores on content (4.17) , the teaching of general professional skills (4.38) and the quality of the teaching staff (4.63). The general atmosphere is also much appreciated (4.62). For more, see the results of the NSE.
Of course, there is also room for improvement: students indicate that they wish to get better preparation for the job market. This is going to be an important target for this academic year. We will (again) organize a career preparation/job perspectives afternoon in the fall, where alumni will tell about their internships and experiences and successes on the job market and people from the LU Career Center will give information and advice on internships and the use of social media (LinkedIn) with job searches. Also within the courses there will be more attention paid to career preparation.
