The Dr. P.A. Tiele Foundation awards the thesis prize to the best graduate thesis in the field of book history. It is the objective of the Dr. P.A. This fall, bestselling authors Jay McInerney ( Bright Lights, Big City), Richard Russo ( Empire Falls) and Hanya Yanagihara ( A Little Life ) are set to appear at Border Kitchen Literary Events on September 14th, 28th and October 4th, respectively. They will be interviewed by Henk van Straten and Arjan Visser.
The NWO has awarded Sara Polak a Rubicon grant. In September, she will start a 12-month period of research at the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture at Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany.

Scholarships for Research MA students at the faculty of Humanities: The Uhlenbeck scholarship programme
With the start of the 2016-2017 academic year the Faculty of Humanities offers a new scholarship for students of various research MA programmes who wish to either study or conduct (field) research abroad.
On April 29th, Dr. Judith Yaross Lee received a Distinguished Professor Award from Ohio University, recognizing the exceptional contribution she's made to her scholarly field and the University. She wasn't able to attend the ceremony, though - she's in Leiden!

On April 14, the fifth Leidschrift Symposium takes place. This year's topic will be the United States Presidential Election, and more specific the American Presidential Campaigns in a contemporary and historic perspective.

LUNAS is the study association for students in and alumni of North American Studies in Leiden. LUNAS helps new North American Studies students to find their way in and around the university and the city. In addition, LUNAS organises social, cultural and networking events for current students and alumni.
In the week of March 21, you will be able to enrol into the new massive open online course on the three Roosevelts, Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor. Prof. Giles Scott Smith of the Leiden North American Studies department received a grant from the university to develop this MOOC and many Leiden Americanists have contributed to it.
