Appointment of two new Vice Deans
Following a careful selection process, on 24 November the Leiden University Executive Board has appointed Dr E.J.L. (Egbert) Fortuin and Professor M.P.A. (Mirjam) de Baar as Vice Dean and portfolio holders for Education of the Faculty of Humanities. As a result responsibility for the large education portfolio will now be shared among two Faculty Board colleagues.
Egbert Fortuin has been acting as interim Vice Dean and member of the Faculty Board since 1 May 2015. He has fulfilled this task with passion and enthusiasm. We are delighted to be able to continue to work together with him on building our fine and diverse Faculty.
Mirjam de Baar will join us as of 1 March 2016. Mirjam has extensive experience as an educational administrator, in positions such as that of Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences at the University of Groningen.
Egbert Fortuin will remain responsible for the bachelor´s programmes while Mirjam de Baar will take responsibility for the master´s programmes. The portfolios that cannot be divided along these lines will be shared among them. In addition, both Vice-Deans will continue to teach so as to remain in close touch with the practical aspects of their policy.
Joost Augusteijn, who has been acting as interim Vice-Dean since 1 May 2015, will continue to do so until the end of the year. The Faculty Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Joost Augusteijn warmly for his commitment and wish him much success in his further work within the Faculty.
In the coming period Mirjam de Baar will be given the opportunity to become familiar with her new responsibilities, a process in which Egbert Fortuin and Joost Augusteijn will be closely involved.
The Faculty Board wishes both new Vice-Deans much success!
