Impact of the introducion of a lay-juror (saiban'in) system in Japan on processes of social reality construction in court in general, and sentencing practices in particular.

- 1997-1999 Research Student at the Faculty of Sociology, Department of Social Sciences, Tsukuba University, Japan, after being awarded a two-year Monbushō Japanese Government Scholarship (1996).
- 1996 - MA in Japanese Studies at Leiden University (Rijksuniversiteit Leiden), Holland.

- August 2007 – January 2008: Lecturer Japanese at Leiden University, The Netherlands
- August 2004 - August 2007: Free-lance translator/interpreter for various clients (Tonbo, NOS, Bosch, etc.), in various types of settings (legal, medical, scientific, media, etc.).
