LU-card

Employees and PhD students at Leiden Universiry receive a LU-card with a number starting with an ‘m’ (‘medewerker’ as opposed to ‘s’ student). With it, you have access to the University Library (UB) and can loan books. The LU-card is also required to print and copy (without credit), which can be done at the multifunctional printer/copy machines scattered around the faculty.

You can have your LU-card made at the University Library or at the Servicedesk in the Lipsius building, or make it yourself online. This can be done by logging in to uPrefs with your ULCN username and password. Once logged in, click ‘Personal data’ and click the icon beside ‘Passport photograph’ in order to upload a photo. Once uploaded, your LU-card will be automatically generated and sent to your home address in case this is a Dutch address. If not, it will be delivered to Plexus (Kaiserstraat 25) where you can pick it up with a valid ID card. This process can take up to a week. Also, make sure that the LU-card is activated upon receiving it.

Printing

To add the LU-card printer to your computer, go to Start > Control Panel > Add a printer. Choose 'Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer'. Select 'Find a printer in the directory, based on location or feature' and click Next. In the 'Name' field, type 'LU' and click 'Find Now'. In the bottom screen, two printers will appear, the LU-card printer for Windows users and LU-Card-Mac printer for Mac user. Choose the appropriate printer and click OK, then Next and Finish. The LU-card printer should now be selected as default printer. If not, right-click on its icon and choose 'Set as default printer'.

By default, the printer will print black and white, double-sided. This can be changed in Word under 'Printer Properties' when giving a print order. When printing, please keep in mind the cost involved for both the institute and the environment.

Outlook calendar

At LIAS, we make use of Outlook calendars in order to plan for appointments and meetings. In Microsoft Outlook, choose 'Calendar' to view and manage your calendar. You can also add the LIAS calendar by clicking Open Calendar > From address book, searching for 'LIAS' and adding the appropriate calendar. If you have any questions about how to manage your calendar, please contact the LIAS secretariat.

Remote access

To access your ULCN account from an external computer or laptop, use Remote Campus.

Download and install the Citrix software (one-time only) and click ‘Terug naar aanmelden’ to log in using your ULCN username and password. Once logged in, you can access your folders, Outlook and other installed software.

Self Service

This service is only available through University computers or Remote access, and works best using Internet Explorer. Log in with your ULCN username and password here: https://sapepp.leidenuniv.nl/irj/portal/UWL

Here you can change your display name and home address, request leave, record time for EU projects, select optional benefits, download salary statements, etc.

Extra software

Many useful software programs such as Adobe Acrobat and Google Chrome can be readily installed on your work computer. Go to Start > Control Panel and choose 'Get programs' under 'Programs' in order to select and install these. Bear in mind that heavy software such as the Adobe Creative Cloud may take up to 1,5 hours to install.
