PhD research

A Textual Study of the *Lakṣaṇaṭīkā
Supervisor: Jonathan Silk

*Lakṣaṇaṭīkā, though a provisional title, consists of Sanskrit notes on Candrakīrti's Madhyamaka treatises, i.e. the Prasannapadā (a Commentary on the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā), the Madhyamakāvatārabhāṣya, the Catuḥśatakaṭīkā, etc. This is a unique text written by Dharma grags, a Tibetan lo tsā ba (translator) who had been to India.

My research is intended to provide this important source material accessible to general readers and reveal several discrepancies between Indian and Tibetan interpretations with regard to understanding of the Madhyamaka thought. In the course of textual examinations, several extant Sanskrit manuscripts of the Urtext will be introduced as well.
