Fields of interest

Mesopotamian religion, ritual practice, scholarship and science in its sociohistorical context; ancient Near Eastern history in the first millennium BC, in particular the Hellenistic period; contact and cultural exchange between the ancient Near East and the broader Mediterranean world; history of religion and ritual; interdisciplinary and comparative approaches.

In November 2014 I successfully defended my PhD thesis about the Anu cult of Hellenistic Uruk at the University of Münster. My thesis offers a detailed analysis of the yearly nocturnal fire ceremony in the Anu temple (TU 41), its historical and theological context, its possible calendrical setting, and its religious and social functions.
