course description

This course is aimed at students who wish to do the Master's degree but who have not yet attained the required level C1 for English. The course is based on the internationally recognised IELTS test. All four skills will be dealt with: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The topics in the lesson focus on language in an academic environment. Due to the fact that students will be required to make class presentations and engage in class discussion in the English language, attention will be paid to practising these skills in a variety of ways.
The course comprises thirteen seminars of three hours and will conclude with a test in the last session. Participants are required to attend at least 80% of the course and will receive a certificate. Students who are preparing to do a degree abroad can sit the IELTS exam. The exam is not held at the University of Leiden.  During the course a workbook will be used which will be distributed during the first lesson.
