How to apply

Both foreign students and Dutch students can apply online for BA International Studies. International students and Dutch students with a different diploma than vwo can apply at Leiden University's Admissions Office. Dutch future students with a vwo-diploma can register via Studielink.

Foreign students and Dutch students with a different diploma than vwo

Foreign students and Dutch students with a different diploma than the Dutch vwo can apply using Leiden University's Online Application System. You apply via this online form if you are an international student (you hold a non-Dutch passport and/or you are seeking admission on the basis of a diploma that was obtained outside the Netherlands or an International or European Baccalaureate) or hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a Dutch university or hogeschool other than Leiden.

When you apply you will need the following information:

  • BA International Studies is formally called 'Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges, International Studies' (CROHO-code 50429); 

  • With your application you are requested to attach a recommendation letter from a lecturer/guidance counsellor at your school; 

  • With your application you are requested to attach a motivation letter.

Dutch students with a vwo-diploma

Dutch future students with a vwo-diploma can apply for BA International Studies on Leiden University's page on Studielink. The programme International Studies is formally called 'Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges - International Studies' (CROHO-code 50429).

Application deadlines

Bachelor programmes at Leiden University only have a September intake. It is not possible to start in February. Please note the following deadlines regarding application:

September 2012 intake

  • April 1st, 2012: application deadline for international students who require a visa and/or assistance in finding housing;  

  • June 15th, 2012: application deadline for all other students, both Dutch and foreign.

September 2013 intake
International students can already apply for the September 2013 intake. Please register via our online application system and choose September 2013 as starting date. After you have submitted the application and paid the 100 euro application fee, your application will be reviewed by our admission officers within a few months.
