Research
Since January 2010 I am engaged as a PhD-researcher in the NWO-project Democratization and political terrorism: The formation and destruction of the two-party system in the Red River Valley of Louisiana, 1865-1878, under supervision of Adam Fairclough. The aim of this project is to discover how the (then progressive) Republican party emerged as a political force in the Red River region of Louisiana in the decade following the civil war, only to disappear after 1877, ushering in a decade of virtual one-party rule. Within this project, I focus specifically on the role played by political violence against Republicans and their supporters and the (lack of) law enforcement in the face of this violence.
