During his studies at Leiden University (2001-2006), Bart focused his research on the history of interwar labor movements, writing among other about Henk Sneevliet, the revolutionary socialist movement and Dutch Trotskyism.

After this, he did his PhD at the European University Institute (2008-2012), researching the practices and discourses of violence within squatter and autonomous movements.

Teaching activities

Bart teaches Dutch History and Oral History.

Bart studied history at Leiden University (2001-2006) and did his PhD at the European University Institute.

He has published articles and edited books on Dutch labor history, European squatter movements and New Social Movements.

In May 2014, he co-organized the conference "A European Youth Revolt, 1980/81?" at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam.
